Our Flag Means Death (2022-2023)

Loosely based on a real person known as the Gentleman Pirate, this 18th century set rom com follows Steve Bonnet (Rhys Darby) a man who leaves his family and well-to-do life on Barbados to become a pirate, gathering up a quirky crew of sailors and eventually crossing paths with the legendary bloodthirsty swashbuckler Blackbeard (Taika Waititi). Despite having no real aptitude for piracy, Stede not only befriends Blackbeard but the two become romantically entangled while they sail the seas and meet lots of interesting characters along the way, including Minnie Driver’s Anne Bonny in season 2. Anne is based on the real life Irish pirate from the 1700s, as real as the gorgeous cleavage Minnie sports in her tight pirate corset. Looks like if her ship ever capsizes, the crew has two phenomenal flotation devices to hold on to!
