Dead Ringers (2023)

A new spin on the true story of twin doctors that was the basis for the David Cronenberg film of the same name from 1988, this one stars Rachel Weisz as identical sisters and OBGYNs Elliot and Beverly Mantle. They work together at the same hospital, often secretly switching places to not have to deal with certain patients, but their dream is to open their own birthing center with an in-house research lab to discover new fertility treatments and other methods of care. The problem is the money for the center would come from Rebecca Parker (Jennifer Ehle), whose wealth comes from the opioid industry. The sisters are also polar opposite’s who seem to want widely different things: Elliot is the loud, cocaine-snorting, sexually-driven one while “baby sister” Beverly is the more reserved one yearning for a baby of her own but keeps having miscarriages. Then Beverly meets Genevieve Cotard (Britne Oldford), and actress with her own fertility issues and a romance sparks between the two, with Elliot’s help. Rachel and Britne get sapphic in seven different scenes, plus there’s some close-up couch shots (with heads coming out of them) during various births. The big nudity comes from Wilma Rivera, who shows off her baby-ready boobies during an outdoor birthing demonstration in the sixth episode. What phe-mom-enal mams!
