The Lost Daughter (2021)

The Lost Daughter (2021) gives us the directorial debut of Maggie Gyllenhaal who is behind the camera for once. The film, an adaptation of a critically acclaimed novel by the same name, follows a middle-aged woman named Leda played by Olivia Colman. She is a college professor of Italian comparative literature and she is spending her summer vacation reading her books in Greece. During her stay, however, she becomes triggered by a large family vacationing at the same time that she is. We learn that Olivia Colman, who is traveling alone, has a complicated relationship with motherhood, so watching other mothers with young children rubs her the wrong way. Through flashbacks in which Jessie Buckley plays the younger version of her, we see that she struggled to enjoy motherhood when her daughters were young. At one point, Dakota Johnson - one of the vacationing women - loses her daughter at the beach. There are a lot of twists and turns in this movie as the story unfolds both in the present and through flashbacks in a rare film that shows us that being a mom may not be all that it's cracked up to be. It also shows us that all of these women look HOT in bathing suits. You won't see Dakota Johnson nude here, but we get bathing suit cleavage from her, Olivia, and the pregnant Dagmara Dominicyzk. In Jessie's scenes, we get to see her bare naked breasts when she is banged by her hubby and when she has a passionate love scene with another man. Jessie lost her clothes in The Lost Daughter!
