Night Catches Us (2010)

Contrary to popular opinion, Night Catches Us (2010) is not about famed director M. Night Shayamalan in ruthless pursuit of someone and eventually catching them. No, this is a period drama set in Philadelphia in the mid-70s starring Anthony Mackie as Marcus, a former Black Panther returning to the Philadelphia neighborhood where he grew up at the height of the city's racially divided tensions. Despite having just been released from prison, Marcus' reputation is such that he allegedly snitched on another Black Panther—who was eventually killed by the police—in order to get his own sentence reduced. The deceased Panther's widow Patricia (Kerry Washington) is working as a lawyer and is more sympathetic to Marcus' plight than the other people in the neighborhood, realizing that he too is a victim of circumstance more than anything else. As it turns out, Marcus actually gave up his friend's location in order to protect Patricia and her daughter, not knowing that he would be murdered by the police. With few other places to turn, Marcus eventually moves in with the sympathetic widow and her daughter, causing quite a stir in the neighborhood and making people question both of their motives. Things come to a head just prior to the one hour mark when the passions between Marcus and Patricia finally boil over and the two get it on! Sadly Kerry Washington keeps her bra on during this steamy sex scene, but there's no denying it's mighty sexy seeing her reunite with her co-star from Spike Lee's She Hate Me (2004)!
