Deception (2021)

Arnaud Desplechin, the director of Ismael's Ghosts (2017) and A Christmas Tale (2008) is back with his latest film, Tromperie, or Deception (2021)! Based on the novel of the same name by Philip Roth, Deception tells the tale of an American novelist named Philip (Denis Podalydès) living in London and carrying on an affair with a woman (Léa Seydoux) who lives in the same building. He converses frequently with his wife (Anouk Grinberg) and other people in his life, though the audience begin to suspect that these encounters and conversations are not actually happening. Is this entire film inside the mind of one man or that man just becoming more detached from those around him? We're not sure and, frankly, we don't care whether or not Léa Seydoux's character is real because her two topless scenes in this flick are the real highlight of the movie!
